According to the AAPC 2009 Salary Survey, certified coders received a 4% salary increase from 2008 to 2009, despite economic conditions. AAPC President and CEO, Reed Pew, stated “In a time of economic troubles it is great to see that our coders are still excelling in terms of salary and recognition. It appears certified medical coders are more recession-proof than others.” Many medical coders have years of experience, but know passing the CPC® or CPC-H® exam is not an easy task.
